I have a working line GSD, bc we had a show line that we lost due to a snake bite while on vacation before she was two, and we loved the breed. Or so we thought. We thought the show line was active, but could chill. Working line are sooooooo different. We literally had to give him a job, scent work, and guard work, but he never stops wanting to work. We run him hard for 45 minutes and he basically collapses, but after a minute he’d do it all over again. Thankfully we it’s just my husband and I w/ no small children here regularly. I still absolutely love the breed, but I thought between my extensive Rottweiler experience and owning a GSD that we’d be fine…we are, but his humans needed trained. These dogs don’t get adopted. Working shepherds don’t do well going from one family to another, so we were able pay for training and he’s an awesome dog. Just be prepared to spend a solid year of training, and another to have the training proofed…just be aware working and show are night and day…both phenomenal dogs, but night and day. Don’t get a dog that no one else can never adopt.
I had the last one and they were super friendly when I was walking alone but my dog was following from the back 2 kidnappers grabbed me and my 2 dogs came and saved me
have 3 German shepherds and they are so sweet to everybody 😊 they are my babies and are not there to protect my home. Also we are an average household with 5 dogs
All those breeds are guard dogs ffs 😂 German shepherd I had one until he was 13 and he protected my house and garden not once has anyone broken into my house coz my German shepherd was massive like bigger then the average gsp
You could have made a top 5 easy. Rottweiler pitbull everyday individual really don’t have the training skills or the time and dedication to train these dogs. Like you said.

I just watched a short where you recommended the working line German shepherd as you #1 for family guardian breeds.
The amount of functional illiterates in the comment section not understanding what you said about German shepherds is concerning.
We had a German shepherd and a Belgian and they were both great with us 4 kids but when that doorbell rang they were ready for anything.
I got a GSD as my first dog ever, working line, BUT, I watched all your videos and trained him up, he's now a great 2 year old boy!
Also, he gets lazy in the heat, and where I live is quite warm most of the year 😅 that helps a lot.
I have an American German Shepherd and it's the most loyal guard dog in the world and it has nothing wrong with it.
Poor Uncle Jeff. He gets pounced a lot. 😂
Turkish Boz Shepherds are the optimal choice for any level of owner

If my dog doesn’t like Uncle Jeff, I don’t like Uncle Jeff.
