My puppy stops and sits to meet every person and every dog. This is great for socialization because he gets so many interactions. My only concern is, he will not move unless I tug on the leash and a lot of times our walks get nowhere on a busy day. I definitely want the socialization but at the same time I want him to know when I say it’s time to go that means we need to go. Do you have any advice? Also keep in mind my puppy is only 13 weeks.
This dog looks super calm compared to mine xD Mine dog would go nuclear when seeing a dog in visual radius. I wish I had a "reactive dog" like that in the video!
Why non of this videos really ever related to what a real reactive dog on a leash do, my dog walks behind me, do not go out the door unless i told her too and still when she see another dog she get really aggressive barking and lounging when is off the leash is find, treats dont mtter not even high value treats
As soon as my dog sees leash she goes bananas, she is very reactive outside too. Idk if we ever would ever make it outside house if had waiter be calm, what’s worse is they say an under active dog is a reactive dog, seems like an uphill battle. What’s ur best advice?
Our one-year-old grand dog, a Canadian Golden, has similar behaviours. We haven't tried the gentle leader as of yet, but have used redirect and sharp vocalizations to correct him. Opposing dogs, especially a neighbour who walks two large dogs at once, often react as well. My solution has been to lead our dog to the side, get his attention, sit and wait for the other party to pass. Yes, stopping, redirecting and keeping attention on you works. I don't use treats, but I do use tone of voice and praise. He's coming along and I'm no pro but we're getting there!
Stop fucking yanking on your dog man. I understand you’re trying to correct but their cervical spine (their neck) could become damaged. Imagine having to pay for some kind of surgery or physical therapy for your dog because you couldn’t stop yanking in his neck and caused him whip lash.
Yeah… my Husky has ZERO treat motivation. No food motivation at all. Makes everything so much more difficult. No toy, treat, any reward is not high enough for him when he is distracted. MAYBE petting, that is his only reward he goes for, but only when he’s super tired or not distracted at all. He will never take a treat when on a walk. I think it’s just the Husky “I must work all day every day” mindset
I watched this part way through wnrt outside and walked, my GSD lunges at people and dogs. Made the leash re-direct with partial success. Next another dog and walker coming< I did the wrong thing, grabbed his muzzel to make him look at me, should have watche the whole video.
I just rescued a 110lb gsd with leash aggression. I've been keeping him a fair distance from other dogs, but every once in a while I try to test him by moving closer.
The closer he gets, the crazier he gets. He starts whine, jump and spin, so I bring him to a safer distance. But the last time I tried my little experiment, I got bit.
Previously, the worst he ever did was stand up and push me back, scratching my chest with his paws. But this time when I corrected him he spun around and full out took a bite of me. It hurt bad, and I admit I was afraid.
I was really pissed off and in pain, but I didn't freak out on him, although I wanted to. I'm not sure i can train him out of this if he continues to threaten me.

Yeah… Ok..
That dog is hardly leash reactive
Thanks for this video. This is something I've been struggling with and haven't been able to figure out how to correct. I'm going to start doing this.

My boxer became leash reactive since having my first son. She started doing it out of protectiveness.

The gsd mix you’re working has a limp.
You’re on point btw.

Looks like he has a slight limp

To be fair "oh hes got long hair oh hes looking at me oh hes getting close" activates my flip out too hahah
My dog tries to get over to people more than dogs it’s so annoying she can’t pull me where she wants I don’t have control at all
Can’t use a gentle leader my dog has no snout much she gets it straight off hates it
At what point are you allowed to just snap and yell at your dog when all tactics fail. So frustrating walking an upfront reactive dog
Can you give me the name of the lish you used around the mouth thanks

Sorry. This is not what I call a reactive dog and he wasn’t even brought into close proximity to another dog.
Great channel. Subtitles with the TIPS are great
