We brought a 100$ crate and I was just going to use it for his storage because he cried every time but to I had enough. Tonight at first I didn’t put the sheet over and he cried for about a hour then I put it over with calming music and I put my shirt on top of the crate so he could smell me and think I was in the room. It’s been almost a hour of no crying. Wish me luck for the am and potty training outside. I’m done with pee pads and picking up poop in the house and the freedom in the house he’s starting to chew up my walls.

There’s no dream human. No dream parent, no dream kids, no dream animal so no dream dog or cat.

Im getting a new pup, so when im not home the pup in the crate should not be able to see my 7 year old dog, but be left in another room with a blanket over the crate ? Is this correct ?
I was thinking it should be in the same room as the older dog so it was able to see it (Because it will make some noises and if its not able to see it i was thinking it would be stressed) ?

A good trick is to bring a blanket to the breeder and have the mother and siblings lay on it to get their scent. It also Depends on the breed and how the breeder socialized them. Lot of variables involved when getting a new puppy

What do you do when your significant other doesn't feel the need to be consistent with this type of training and you do?

My cage is in the corner of the living room. Should it be completely dark for the dog as the blanket completely covers the cage, or should there be some light still ? I plan on having and keeping it downstairs

This might be a daft question but should the crate be the only bed in the house?

But here is the question I have. I realize last night only night 2 and had a puppy before but each different. If she whines at first put in we ignore she cries sometimes for 5 mins. Then its fine – however, hour later whines – how do i know its pee and not attention – considering though i do take her out and she pees. Then another hour later same thing – then 2 hours – etc…. My point is how do you know which cry it is…..

My puppy show signs of wanting to potty in the house, but whenever I transition the puppy outdoors, he is easily distracted … smelling the grass (as if he’s hunting for a place to pee) but all he wants to do is dig up the grass and he forgets he had to pee. How do I keep him to stay on target?

Great info but too much talking. It would be much more beneficial if you were demonstrating with a dog.

This video is WONDERS! My 9 week puppy sleeps quietly all night now and awakens fresh each morning and then proceeds to cook my breakfast of eggs and bacon. Won’t be long before he will learn to make coffee. Good luck!!!!!

Do you recommend closing the door on the crate from day 1 forward or leaving it open until the puppy acclimates then gradually keeping it closed for longer periods of time. I've seen both methods.

Do you put your puppy right back into their crate following night time potty trips outside or do they need some exercise before back to the crate?

Brought puppy home friday and it's monday I feel like we have been doing this for a month. 6 accidents and 4-5 hours of sleep. Still going to try the crating method- sticking to it. I was able to calm her down and she walked into crate. She cried a little and I just kept "shusing" her until she was out. She slept 6 hours in her crate 5.5 woke to pee / poop and went back in 40 min later and slept additional 2.5 hours.
